Gay man assaulted in Croatian Big Brother house
Matija Stainer, a recently evicted housemate from the Croatian version of Big Brother, has alleged that he was both physically and verbally assaulted by another housemate. While the attacks weren’t shown on television Stainer made the allegations in his exit interview with the series’ host.
He said producers made no effort to remove the attacker and “took no public action over the incident.” He said he also had to endure homophobic bullying from the other housemates. When he was first introduced one of the contestants said, “You can clearly see he loves to take it (up the ass).” While he was also frequently called “pedercina” a word which roughly translates to “faggot”.
The interview has garnered criticism online as Croatia is once again in the spotlight for homophobic actions. Earlier this week religious zealots burned an effigy of an LGBT-friendly picture book because it represented evil.
