Risk Management is at the core of Payments done well – and we are hiring curious, driven, and fearless experts to transform our business unit to enable eBay's next generation Payments strategy. Our focus is to ensure the integrity of our marketplace for buyers and sellers who transact with us every single day. The scope of our charter includes Risk Management Strategy, Policy, Decision Sciences, and Policy Operations.

We are looking for a highly talented and self-motivated individual to join our Risk Management Policy team. The principal responsibility of this role is to develop policies to support our corporate business objectives while mitigating the risks associated with payment processing and seller activities.

Success in this role requires the capacity to connect decisions to broader business strategies, influence effectively, agility to pivot and adapt to meet the needs of our dynamic marketplace, and build customer experiences that are simple and instill trust.

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for risk mitigation strategy, establish metrics for understanding loss, and provide policy guidance as eBay seeks to position itself as a leader in the industry with digitally delivered sales.

  • Provide real time visibility into Risk checkpoints and controls, conduct in depth analysis of risk events, and emerging threats that arise.

  • Partner across teams and regions within eBay to coordinate strategy, share insights and maintain healthy metrics across the monitored portfolio.


The ideal candidate must work well in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, and possess analytics experience and knowledge of risk trends, systems, and operational processes. Must demonstrate the ability to quickly and accurately gauge impact, classify issues and identify root cause while owning strategy execution. The candidate should possess excellent written/verbal communication skills, be well organized, and possess strong technical and analytical skills. This candidate should be able to balance multiple projects at the same time and handle various tasks with challenging demands in a fast-paced technology environment.

Other Qualifications include:

  • 7+ years analytics experience in Risk, Ecommerce, or Finance Industries

  • Deep understanding of Risk Management in one or more of these areas: collusion fraud, fraud mitigation for online or digitally delivered goods or services, loss mitigation and recovery, or payments compliance.

  • Proficiency in data retrieval (e.g. SQL) is a must and handling (e.g. Python) is helpful.

  • Experience developing data visualizations (e.g. Tableau)

  • 3-5 years of experience with large datasets, recognizing and interpreting data trends, and using data to influence business decisions

  • Experience working with groups remotely and multiple cultures

  • Ability to break down complex problems and business questions and effectively communicate measurable insights to diverse audiences

  • Optimistic and “can-do” attitude with a penchant to challenge the status quo to "get it done".

  • BS/BA degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or related field
