Engineering Team Lead - Identity

eBay Classifieds Group (eCG) is an innovative leader in online classifieds with ten brands that span the globe. Our sites help people find whatever they’re looking for in their local communities – whether it’s a job, an apartment, a sofa, a car, a concert ticket, financial services or new friends. Every connection made or item found makes a difference by creating a world where people share more and waste less. People who want to connect and trade visit our sites because they’re fun, easy to use and built on trust.

Classifieds is shaping the future of local commerce by bringing people together through an enriched online experience that allows them to reach out to the community around them. We are comprised of more than 1,000 people who are passionate for local trade and maintaining the customer-centric nature of the Group, while exploring growth opportunities in both the countries where eCG already has a presence and in prospective markets.

About the team:

eCG's Identity-team is part of Global Capabilities, a hub of internal services built for scale. We are experienced engineers who develop systems around Identity and Access Management (IAM) that already power our local platforms in Canada, Germany and Australia. Our mission is creating the only Identity-solution that eCG needs, providing a secure, seamless and trustworthy experience for our platforms and their users. We expect significant growth of onboarded platforms over the coming year.

The role:

As Team Lead, you will be accountable for ensuring technical and operational excellence, either through hiring or growing the talent we have. This includes shaping our ways of working, not just in the team but also with your peers and other teams.

In this role, you will develop team members by coaching and mentoring. We expect you to set clear expectations and goals for the team in alignment with the strategic direction of the business. To achieve this you will, in collaboration with Product Manager and Tech Lead, build the environment for a productive and efficient team, while managing bandwidth and skills

We believe spending time on hands-on coding for 20-40% of your time alongside the team is an important part of being Team Lead. Furthermore, you will support the Tech Lead in setting the technical strategy by sparring on execution and goals

What we are looking for:

  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing people, has experience leading an engineering team in an agile environment, and can mentor and coach team members.

  • We need you to be able to communicate your ideas to people with varying backgrounds and disciplines. When a conversation is stuck, you are able to facilitate and find ways to gently move it forward. Interdisciplinary collaboration is important to you, and you understand when you should push through or seek alignment.

  • You have strong engineering skills with a proven track record of successfully delivering high-quality outcomes, and have worked in a team that has a DevOps-mindset and owns what it builds. You know how to design and build large-scale systems. You know current technology stacks for commerce technologies, and have experience running services on public cloud (we use Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL Kubernetes, Google Cloud)

Bonus points for familiarity with IAM technologies for the web, e.g. OpenID Connect or OAuth2.0.

What we offer:

  • Meaningful work with diverse, international, highly skilled and passionate teams which give you the chance to make a difference in our customers’ lives.

  • International career opportunities throughout eCG.

  • Competitive compensation, conference & education budget. We value your personal and professional development.

  • A healthy work-life balance, i.e. part-time work, an additional paid parental leave time, flexible working hours including working from home options.

  • A great atmosphere, open-minded company culture with several social team activities (online and offline).

We love building opportunities for others by connecting people from widely diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and geographies. So, being diverse and inclusive isn’t just something we strive for, it is who we are, and part of what we do every single day. We want to ensure that as an employee, no matter who you are, you feel eBay Classifieds Group is a place where you feel safe, included, and that you have the opportunity to bring your unique self to work.
