About the team:

Core Technology (CT) is a global team responsible for the end-to-end eBay technology platform. This platform runs our entire infrastructure and all the services that come together to form ebay.com.

Job Duties:

eBay’s traffic engineering team is responsible for building and managing platforms that currently handle over 15+ billion requests per day. As a part of the traffic engineering team, the ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver the platform and contribute to upstream open source projects. The candidate will be working on building a very resilient distributed system at eBay’s edges that can proxy all of eBay traffic with unparalleled observability.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a hands-on lead developer, expected to lead other developers in different phases of system development. Strong analytical skill, experience building and debugging large scale distributed systems is a must. Should be passionate about observability and monitoring of the system. The candidate will also be required to have hands-on experience with various programming languages like C/C++, GoLang, Python to build the system and also build automation around it for better observability and remediation. The role will also require deep knowledge and experience of the networking topology (TCP and HTTP stack) to troubleshoot any network related issues encountered by the system. The candidate is also required to have experience deploying and troubleshooting a large scale infrastructure. Familiarity and working knowledge of networking technologies like BGP, anycast is a must. Past experience with kernel programming is also highly desired.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or any equivalent field with at least 8 years of experience.

Special Skill Requirements:

  • Experience with TCP/IP networking
  • Experience with C/C++, Golang and Kernel programming
  • Experience with Python, Javascript and Java is a plus
  • Familiarity with TCP, SSL and HTTP Protocols.
  • Distributed systems with design and implementation of network communication
  • Multi-threaded programming;
  • Telemetry infrastructure to accumulate and export statistical information
  • Excellent debugging and triaging skills is a must.
  • Strong expertise in agile development and a person who can be a technical lead.
