The Opportunity


As part of the Lead Advisory practice, the Regional Corporate Finance (“RCF”) team advises private equity, corporate and entrepreneurial clients on strategic reviews, acquisitions, disposals, mergers, leveraged transactions and finance raisings.


The North Lead Advisory team, based in Manchester, has experienced strong growth momentum and advised on a number of the leading transactions in the region. This has resulted in the continued investment into the North Lead Advisory team demonstrating the ongoing commitment to continuing the growth of our business.


The role will be Manchester based, covering the North of England, but the team operates in conjunction with the other regional and London Corporate Finance teams and you will be expected to occasionally work on projects outside of the North of England as required.



Your Key Responsibilities


As part of our growth plans, we would like to meet prospective candidates for future Executive roles as we look to strengthen the Corporate Finance team in the North of England and to grow the execution and origination capabilities in line with the increased levels of Lead Advisory activity that the team has experienced. 


Corporate Finance Executives play key roles in the RCF team and advise on a wide variety of corporate transactions, interacting with clients and other professionals such as bankers and lawyers, take a lead role in the preparation of Business Plans and Information Memoranda, and are closely involved in deal negotiation. 


Skills and Attributes for success

  • Structuring and modelling the financial implications of transactions;
  • Researching and profiling potential acquisition targets and prospective buyers and presenting the strategic rationale for potential transactions;

  • Preparation of client reports and key documentation for fund-raising, acquisitions and disposals including information memoranda, business plans;

  • Preparation of pitch documentation;

  • Provision of creative solutions to transaction issues;

  • Research and examination of key value drivers at a market and business level;

  • Effective communication of findings of work to clients;

  • Taking responsibility for own workload and ensuring that all tasks are efficiently completed;

  • Keeping the team informed of progress and highlighting any issues (as appropriate) and discussing your conclusions with them;

  • Building and developing a network of internal and external relationships amongst professional intermediaries, private equity houses, corporate targets and clients;

Identifying and targeting potential opportunities for both the LEAD ADVISORY and wider EY practice and working with senior members of the team to convert these into fee earning engagements.


To qualify for the role you must have

  •  Possession of an accounting/finance qualification or similar;
  • Strong numerical and financial skills coupled with a comprehensive understanding of financial statements;

  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to apply this to real world situations, demonstrating an ability to analyse market and business drivers;

  • Creative in the sourcing and use of information and able to make sensible assumptions where appropriate;

  • Confidence to communicate effectively with senior team members

  • Self-starter and fast learner as well as being able to work effectively in a team;

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;

  • Ability to work flexibly, managing and prioritising different pieces of work;

  • Excellent presentation and report writing skills;

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion;

  • Ability to absorb new technical information quickly and develop a deep understanding of the strategic rationale for transactions;

  • Application of core technical and commercial skills to a variety of situations;

  • Sound commercial judgment and an ability to generate creative solutions to problems and 'think on your feet';

  • A natural interest in Corporate Finance and the Lead Advisory market.

Ideally you’ll also have

  •  Strong organisational and team management skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with team members, organisations and clients;
