The US Tax Desk is part of EY’s EMEIA Tax Center (ETC). The ETC is unique to EY: we are the only Big 4 professional services firm with a dedicated center of excellence focused on delivering exceptional client service across borders. Our 570+ talented ETC professionals are based in 21 countries across Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA), and work with clients across the area, regardless of our location or theirs. We provide specialist tax, business and technology expertise to address clients’ most pressing challenges in an exciting, dynamic tax and business environment, through a broad range of innovative service offerings. 

Ernst & Young LLP’s Global Tax Desk Network is staffed by tax professionals from approximately 15 global jurisdictions (i.e., Asia, EMEIA and the Americas), providing real time tax advice to our global clients. The Global Tax Desk teams work together with our local country tax professionals to provide in-depth tax advice on the laws in their home jurisdictions and tax-effective structuring of multi-country transactions. Our Global Tax Desk Network in EMEIA provides comprehensive tax advice to clients who are engaged in international transactions or expanding across borders.

Our EMEIA Global Tax Desk team has over 40 professionals from 14 countries including a large representation from the United States and representation from Africa, Brazil, China, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Australia, Russia and Asia-Pac. We have Tax Desk hubs in London, Munich, Zurich and Madrid – London is our largest Desk.

The opportunity

Our US Desk team in London are looking for an experienced Tax Staff 2 with US tax background. Your US tax background must incorporate tax compliance and consulting experience, including state and local tax.

Your key responsibilities

  • As directed by the PPEDS, Senior Managers and Managers on the US Desk - begin to build tax relationships with internal clients and learn how to provide exceptional client service on all the projects you are invited to contribute to.
  • On a project by project basis, assist in Desk Pursuits and Wins by providing support to the US Desk senior management group as they service existing clients and win new clients
  • Manage the successful delivery of specific areas and tasks on client tax projects, ensuring technical excellence is applied at all stages and a best practice approach is taken.
  • Contribute to the development of the team both in terms of strategy, operations and innovation – we operate as a non-hierarchical, high performing team and expect all team members to contribute to the wider team success.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Team player with ability to create, sustain and lead effective teams.
  • Client savvy and commercially aware.
  • Excellent communicator in a range of situations, both written and oral.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible attitude to work.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • US Certified public accountant and/or Tax lawyer
  • Degree qualified
  • Experienced tax practitioner with US tax background
  • Experience working with large client accounts on international tax issues

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Project management skills, the ability to plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines and monitor own budget
