The Position

This role is responsible for delivering strategic branded and unbranded communication programmes and patient advocacy engagement for Gilead’s HIV portfolio in the ACE (Australia, Canada and Europe) region. The position works closely with cross-functional and Public Affairs colleagues at the global, regional and country levels.

Job duties include:

  • Setting regional communications and advocacy strategy to assert Gilead’s long-term leadership in and commitment to HIV, in alignment with global direction and local market input
  • Identifying and creating targeted thought leadership opportunities for Gilead’s therapeutic area leadership
  • Designing and implementing disease awareness programmes that inform and engage people living with HIV, encourage at-risk individuals to engage in care, and help to de-stigmatise the disease among the general public
  • Communicating data and regulatory milestones that demonstrate Gilead’s continued investment in HIV R&D and the advancement of key programs including long-acting treatment and HIV cure research
  • Developing compelling materials to support external communications, including the development of materials, key messages, Q&A documents, press releases, presentations, videos, social media content, etc.
  • Developing/strengthening relationships with a wide variety of community advocates, media and other influential organisations
  • Maintaining a compliant two-way dialogue with community advocates to ensure patient needs are appropriately represented in our company programmes
  • Coordinating with cross-functional colleagues to ensure alignment and collaboration in strategic priorities and messaging across different stakeholders
  • Providing support for the implementation of in-market PR and advocacy activities
  • Responding to media requests and coordination of interviews with Gilead spokespeople and opinion leader spokespeople, as appropriate
  • Continuously scanning the environment to proactively identify and manage issues
  • Understanding the regulatory frameworks in the region and compliantly managing internal approvals and interactions with reviewers
  • Managing agency partners

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Global or pan-EU experience in product PR, media and advocacy
  • Ability to understand and accurately communicate complex science
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations (traditional and social), issues management; knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility and results-oriented focus are essential 
  • Ability to interact with senior management and high-profile experts appropriately, with confidence and ease
  • Ability to give formal presentations to internal and external audiences of various sizes
  • Experience working successfully with patient organisations, preferably with HIV community
  • Fluency in English 
  • Typically requires a BA degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field (or International Equivalent) proven relevant experience, which includes solid healthcare public relations experience
