Job Title:  Associate Scientist, High Throughput Biology

Job Type:  Regular, Full-Time

Location:  Foster City, CA


We are seeking a motivated and talented Associate Scientist with solid assay development and automation experience to join our High Throughput Biology & Screening group. The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing, automating and performing biochemical and cell-based assays to support drug discovery projects from hit identification to lead optimization stages. He/she will have opportunities to lead initiatives in conducting high throughput library screens and compound profiling employing state of the art assay technologies and lab automation including mass spectrometry analytical methods, and custom-integrated robotic systems. The successful candidate will independently analyze data, communicate and present results to project teams and serve as functional area expert with in depth scientific and technical knowledge on multi-disciplinary project teams in diverse therapeutic areas to drive discovery research efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, execute384 well plate-based high throughput in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays.
  • Conduct high throughput library screens and compound profiling.
  • Independently program, operate and trouble-shoot multi-component robotic systems.
  • Develop and establish bio/analytical methods employing mass spectrometry.
  • Apply scientific knowledge and technical expertise to design and conduct plate based biochemical and cell based screens using state of the art screening technologies.
  • Maintain a cutting edge awareness of technical developments as well as scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve assay and workflow performance.
  • May serve as team or core team member by representing High Throughput Biology on project teams in diverse therapeutic areas.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in high throughput assay development, optimization and execution.
  • Prepare clear and accurate scientific and technical reports.
  • Prepare and deliver scientific presentations to project teams and R&D management.


  • Bachelors with 9+ years of experience or Master's with 8+years. Degree in molecular pharmacology, biochemistry or related field.  
  • Extensive industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Proven record of developing biochemical and/or cell based assays.
  • Solid experience with 384 well plate based high throughput screening and assay automation.
  • Hands on experience with state of the art assay technologies both biochemical and cell based including TR-FRET, FP, Alpha Screen, luciferase reporter gene assays, flow cytometry and/or high content imaging required.
  • Tissue culture experience (cell lines and primary cells) is essential.
  • Experience in virus infectious disease field (HIV, HBV, Respiratory viruses) is preferred.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute experiments, interpret and analyzes data are required.
  • Ability to defend results and findings in formal settings including project team meetings is essential.
  • Ability to write scientific and technical reports or create poster presentations is essential.
  • Experience with high throughput data analysis applications required.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and have strong communication skills (verbal and written) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative, matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills (oral and written) are required.
