Job Description

Job Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Leader and internal consultant within the Department of Biostatistics Center for Statistical Excellence on driving innovation on drug development using state-of-the-art statistical methods.
  • Leader for specific Biostatistical Research Hubs. Viewed as a key resource by more senior individuals on departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Works with Study Biostatisticians and Clinical Research Scientists to assist with innovative trial design, simulation and execution, and develop adaptive trials software tools as appropriate.
  • Able to positively impact processes and projects by influencing peers and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Good understanding of the business beyond the area of Biostatistics and is a recognized expert outside of the company.
  • Able to set up and influence collaborations with external academic or government organizations to extend visibility or business need of the company. Ability to collaborate with outside experts, and internal colleagues to present and/or publish new statistical methodology within and outside of the company.
  • Uses competitive intelligence to influence clinical development strategies.
  • Uses knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding statistical principles to ensure the company meets its regulatory, scientific, and business objectives.
  • May specialize within a particular Therapeutic Area/indication or technical area to serve as a Company-wide resource.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in a group setting.
  • Able to identify the most critical aspects of a problem/issue.  Can make effective decisions where information is limited or solutions may produce unpleasant consequences in the short term.
  • Proven ability to directly supervise personnel. Works with senior management and Human Resources to identify long-term staffing plans, provides career development opportunities to staff capabilities, and recognizes/rewards desired performance.

Typical Education and Experience:

  • 7+ years of industry experience in the statistical analysis of biomedical data with an MS degree in Biostatistics or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in the statistical analysis of biomedical data with an PhD degree in Biostatistics or equivalent.
  • Must have programming capability with statistical software packages in SAS or R.
