Job Description

Specific Responsibilities and skills for Position

The Global Value & Access Senior Director is primarily responsible for developing the overall Value & Access strategy for pipeline medicines and indications of his/her assigned Therapeutic Area(s), in close partnership with Research and Development, with inputs from Commercial and Medical Affairs.

Candidates should possess the ability to understand future Market Access scenarios and challenges and help lead the creation of the Market Access Value Stories and strategic alternatives to inform strategic planning to ensure minimal barriers to launch and uptake. The position directly reports to the Head of Global Value & Access.

The Global Value & Access Senior Director key responsibilities are to:

  • Analyze market access for individual countries and/or regions and its regulatory environment and translate analysis to insights, recommendations and scenarios. Advise on long-term development and the implications for commercial planning.
  • Identify changes in the market, identify opportunities and threats, and develop an action plan.
  • Formulate a clear value proposition (Market Access Value Story) for development stage products, translating clinical benefits into differentiating advantages.
  • Develop and build a Global Value & Access Strategy (GVAS) for the assigned products in the designated Therapeutic Area and deliver the specified GVAS components throughout the drug development cycle.
  • Integrate input from Regions and key markets’ archetypes to support global data framework.
  • Analyze health economic landscape and translate to key findings, scenarios, and implications. Advise countries/regions and corporate departments with regard to health economics & outcomes.
  • Build pricing tools and/or economical models that can be used by Regions and countries.
  • Analyze pricing and payer landscape and conduct target pricing (e.g. payers’ perception of values, valued levers, price-value trade-offs, forecasting models) and translate these to pricing recommendations.
  • Provide guidance to global launch pricing and negotiations (e.g. evidence generation, value dossiers, price corridor setting).

Build and maintain long-term relationships with corporate departments and regional/country departments

Key Deliverables:

  • Analysis of the access landscape in key markets, incl. changes and potential changes in key markets health policy and/or legislation that might impact Gilead’s business
  • Value message development and market research. Overall Value & Access strategy and compelling Value Story to support the payer assessment and minimize barriers to physician prescribing and patient affordability of the drug
  • Value & Access input and HEOR feedback into clinical development (incl. comparators, endpoints, patient segments, instruments, analysis plans)
  • Early Integrated Evidence Plan generation (through claims/registry analyses targeting market understanding and development). Overall evidence / Value gaps identification and mitigation strategy (starting with systematic literature reviews)
  • Pricing considerations for early planning and payer landscape assessments / market research. Pricing for new molecules (and portfolio, where applicable), and development of pricing principles and policy (Global pricing corridor/range). Assessment of indication launch sequence implications for pricing and reimbursement
  • GVAS, including roll-out and training to Regions / affiliates to support affiliate Access negotiations  and launch preparation
  • Ensure appropriate Access insights and input to key corporate planning deliverables (Global Commercialization Plans and Long Range Plans)

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years’ experience in the biopharma industry or strategic consulting, including expertise in Market Access and Pricing strategy, either at Global level (preferred) and/or at Regional or Market levels.
  • Demonstrated excellence in effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence cross functional stakeholders, executive management and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Lead by example, respecting Gilead core values of integrity, teamwork, accountability and excellence

Academic Level

  • Bachelors of Science, Pharm D, MD, PhD
  • MBA preferred
