We are seeking a Utility and Energy Manager at our Foster City Campus

Facilities Management Operations Department


  • Analyze, forecast and monitor energy consumption across our corporate sites
  • Identify energy savings opportunities (physical, incentives & rebates)
  • Conduct energy audits to evaluate energy use, cost, or conservation measures
  • Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use of potential energy savings
  • Direct the work of contractors, peers or staff in the implementation of energy management projects
  • Act as Gilead’s FC primary liaison with utilities (water, electricity & natural gas) suppliers and/or vendor(s)
  • Review/approve invoicing of water, electricity & natural gas (includes auditing these activities)
  • Provides communications during site outage conditions to the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Facilities Management Operations (FMO) team
  • Manage the Supplier Contracts and software systems that are related to Utility management
  • Manage the site Energy Demand Responses system
  • Communicate all CA Independent System Operator (ISO) alerts to the FMO team 
  • Create an Energy Program and align with our Global Sustainability Policy
  • Continuously improve the function by means of developing a Utility Master Plan, business enabling documents, point of contact list and optimizing software applications   
  • Initiate all needed Purchase Work Orders to ensure all energy operation services are in place


  • 7+ years of relevant experience or
  • BA or BS degree in the same discipline such as energy engineering, energy systems engineering, mechanical engineering or
  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a MS degree
  • Current Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is preferred
  • Other preferred credentials but not required are; Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), LEED Green Associate, Renewable Energy Professional (REP)
  • Able to provide results in a large-scale operation that includes a very fast-moving environment with changing priorities and constant added task
  • Prefer the ability to navigate in Building Automation Systems (BAS), Trane and OSIsoft PI. Siemens, Trane and PI experience is a plus
  • Have demonstrated the ability to independently create and gather large amounts of data that is displayed in a simple organized fashion
  • Must have a strong understanding of energy organizations, examples are; US Energy Association, US Renewable Energy Association, CA ISO
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio, MS Project and type more than 20 words per minute
  • Able and willing to be in the field at times with a hands-on approach
  • Experience in project financial reporting and planning
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID’s, electrical & architectural drawings
  • Effectively communicates with peers and project teams, including engineers, project managers, BAS engineers, and subcontractors
