Job Description

The Manager, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Compliance and Controls is part of the team that oversees internal control over financial reporting for the Company. The SOX Compliance and Controls team is responsible for oversight and reporting on the internal control design. He/she will be responsible for the maintenance and preparation of clear, detailed and accurate SOX documentation, including narratives/process flow diagrams, control descriptions, risk control matrices and partners with Internal Audit in planning the SOX compliance testing program.

As part of this unique business structure, the SOX PMO group works closely with global cross-functional teams to ensure that the SOX program is appropriately designed and executed. In this role, we also expect team members to be actively involved in key system implementations including the assessment of the future state processes, risk assessment and review of system testing strategies.

This role offers a very good opportunity for team members to transition from public accounting and gain in-depth knowledge over the pharmaceutical industry, overall accounting processes, and complex accounting areas. 

Strong project management skills are critical as team members are assigned multiple audit areas and system implementation projects. 

Essential Duties and Job Functions

Keys to success in this role include:

  • Subject matter expert on internal controls and SOX compliance 
  • Partner with the business process owners during design, modification, or streamlining of processes and controls
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of internal controls analysis to comply with SOX requirements and/or internal policy
  • Partner with and/or be the liaison between business process owners and Internal Audit and External Audit during resolution of control findings
  • Develop and produce reports on SOX related project status, trends, and remediation of deficiencies
  • Recommend improvements to process, controls and/or test programs to improve process efficiency/effectiveness and/or control environment
  • Partner with IT SOX team to ensure appropriate IT controls design
  • Maintain a positive attitude and embrace change -- learn new technology (robotic process automation, data analytics and new systems)
  • Participate in special projects, as required
  • Self-starter that is able to solve problems independently and works proactively to identify, advocate for and execute improvements
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • CPA with a Big 4 public accounting firm is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in designing, monitoring, or evaluating internal controls and SOX compliance programs for a multinational organization
  • Strong planning, project management and analytical skills 
  • Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills
  • Proficiency in US GAAP and general accounting policies and procedures is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required
