R&D Information Systems Analyst, Structural Chemistry

Job Description

  • Works within the Research Informatics group to support scientific research
  • Develops and applies a functional knowledge of drug discovery
  • Works with research scientists to understand their workflow for drug discovery
  • Creates and supports software to accelerate drug discovery 
  • Proposes and develops software for knowledge management, logistics, or prediction
  • Proposes and deploys metrics for the value and effectiveness of software
  • Uses existing development tools and procedures to enhance a body of mature C# software
  • Develops software in C# with both MVC and .Net Web Forms frameworks
  • Suggests, selects and configures software from vendors when appropriate
  • Prepares user training and documentation
  • Provides support to end-users on day-to-day operation workflows
  • Works within the guidelines of Gilead Enterprise IT for servers and systems
  • Speaks and writes clearly

Key Responsibilities

  • Programming (in C#) and scripting (in Pipeline Pilot or Python)
  • Engagement with scientists to identify pressing needs and develop software solutions
  • Anticipation of needs for logistics, data analysis, and visualization software
  • Support for data-driven decision making by implementing and deploying software
  • Ability to quickly develop software solutions (approximately 1 month per solution)
  • Alignment on software development methodology and technologies
  • Frequent communication with management, colleagues, and researchers
  • Responsibility for implementation, development, and management of information systems to meet business objectives.
  • Responsibility for change management associated with systems being developed, enhanced or supported
  • Ability to develop analytical methods to understand the impact and use of software
  • Stay current with cloud, data analytics, and visualization technologies as well as practical approaches to their use
  • Manages specific projects under direction from management
  • Works as an individual contributor and project lead
  • Contributes to the development of systems strategy
  • Acts as a technical spokesperson to the business on area of expertise
  • Is cognizant of time and budget constraints
  • Review ones work in terms of meeting the organization’s objectives and schedules
  • Works within established operating policies and procedures
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to organizational policies
  • Liaises with Global IT to support policies
  • Liaises with IT to schedule changes and updates for systems


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a science (such as Chemistry) or Computer Science with some experience in the laboratory or programming languages.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (such as C++ or C# or Java or .Net) and a scripting language such as R or Python.  Familiarity with SQL
  • Foundation in statistics, data mining, and data visualization
  • Knowledge of methods to analyze data for visual impact to solve scientific needs and make strategic decisions.
  • A drive for practical and flexible solutions to problems
  • The ability to provide solutions to complex problems with ingenuity and creativity
  • An ability to work within a team to manage a project for success.
  • An ability to manage, develop and improve processes and operations with software
  • An understanding of how to work within a rigid time constraint
