Senior Director, EMEA Controller

Job Description

The Position

The EMEA Controller reports directly to the Global Business Services Controller and is responsible for oversight of the accounting, control and reporting activities of the EMEA region driving the quality of the information reported in the region’s financial statements and other management reporting packages. This includes working with country finance teams in delivering streamlined, timely and insightful management information, strengthening financial controls across the region and ensuring a strong compliance culture. As a member of the EMEA Finance Leadership Team, the EMEA Controller will participate in planning activities for the region and support strategic decision making. This role will collaborate with colleagues in more than 25 markets and will be the Leader of the EMEA Controllers Network.

Job duties include:

  • Provide business partnering and decision support to the EMEA Finance Leadership and local country finance teams
  • Oversee the accounting close and reporting process including coordination with the Financial Shared Services Organization to ensure effective and efficient processes
  • Oversee the accounting for complex arrangements including alliance agreements
  • Lead preparation of the working capital forecast utilized for hedging activities
  • Lead the design and execution of credit controls in the region
  • Ensure effective financial controls across EMEA and oversee compliance with Corporate SOX requirements
  • Coordinate efficient and effective internal and external audits and balance sheet reviews
  • Lead, manage, and develop team of seven ensuring cross-training and succession plans
  • Lead and support a strong Controllers Network to share improvement opportunities and best practices, provide training on new or upcoming accounting standards, and support interpretation of internal policies
  • Lead or support other Corporate, CFO Organization, or EMEA initiatives and projects

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Accountant with in-depth proficiency in US GAAP (or IFRS) and financial reporting control requirements
  • Strong leadership and influence skills with demonstrated business partnering approach
  • Experienced people manager with proven ability to attract, retain and develop talent
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and projects to successful completion
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to establish effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a matrix organization
  • An inquisitive mind and consistent track record of continuous improvement
  • Positive attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Experience working with Oracle or equivalent system and proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare or biotech industries would be a plus
