Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/ AIDS, liver diseases, serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, cancer and inflammation, headquartered in Foster City, California.  As a Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist, you will join the Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group in research, working closely with biology, protein biochemistry, toxicology, clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, and regulatory to optimize leads, to select biologic candidates for clinical evaluation, and contribute to IND/ IMPD and NDA/ BLA filings.

The primary responsibilities of a PK modeler would be to provide PK, PK/PD analysis and ADME assessment to support discovery and development teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as subject matter and task -oriented DMPK expert on dynamic cross-functional teams, conducting PK/PD, PBPK modeling in translation of in vitro ADME and transport information to predict in vivo PK and human efficacious dose, providing data interpretation, and presentations to discovery and development teams.
  • Work closely with project teams, line management and CROs to assure high quality and timely delivery of written reports for regulatory submissions. Propose testing strategies to project teams and characterize ADME/transport kinetics and implement mathematical tools for human PK prediction and assessment of drug-drug interactions (DDI) of investigational new molecular entities.
  • Prepare study protocols and coordinate execution of pre-clinical PK studies, which may involve multiple functional areas and CROs.
  • Supervising or performance management of associate scientists may be required.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience with Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, cell/molecular biology or related field with some industrial experience in drug transport/metabolism.
  • Previous experience with PK/PD, PBPK model analysis for human PK prediction is preferred. Experience in transporter/enzyme kinetics assessment and the application of PK modeling software systems (e.g. MatLab/ SimBIO SimCYP, Phoenix/ WinNonlin, or similar) is necessary.
  • The candidate will possess strong work ethics, problem solving skills, and ability to work independently in a focused, goal-oriented manner. The ability to interact and collaborate with scientists from various disciplines and functional areas is vital to this role.
  • The candidate will be able to seek evidence of productivity and independence through authorship of research in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are prerequisites to perform in a highly-matrixed team environment.
