Specific Responsibilities:

An experienced mathematical modeler, with a focus upon pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism, ideally with a track record in broad application in Drug Discovery and Drug Development.  Responsibilities will be divided between being a modeling resource supporting the drug metabolism department (and other groups within Research) and also a department representative on specific Drug Research and Development teams which would benefit for modeling support.  The focus is upon providing a mechanistic understanding of drug absorption and disposition, and application of the understanding in various pharmacodynamic models.  Experience in prediction of human pharmacokinetics is essential.  Experience with working with both small molecules and biologics is an asset.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply mathematical models for diverse needs at all stages in Drug Discovery and early Drug Development.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in prediction of human pharmacokinetics from physicochemical, in vitro and nonclinical data.
  • Design and perform complex PK analysis, model development and PK/PD analyses to answer translational questions and to provide DMPK guidance for project teams.
  • Serve as DMPK subject matter expert on dynamic cross-functional teams, to define ADME strategy to achieve target product profile, provide in vitro and in vivo drug disposition and DDI data, interpretation and presentations to teams.
  • Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of research results.
  • Ability to communicate and educate others on complex areas of DMPK science as a technical expert.  Could be a deep expert in one area with working knowledge of other aspects of drug disposition.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Requires a highly motivated individual with PhD degree in life sciences with 7+ years of experience
  • BS or MS degree with extensive industry experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent scientific verbal, technical communication and interpersonal skills. Must be organized, pay attention to details and have strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Prior experience contributing to the discovery and development of a drug candidate from preclinical through clinical trials is an asset
  • A critical understanding of commercial PBPK software (e.g. Simcyp or GastroPlus) plus experience in application of general purpose modeling software (e.g. Berkeley Madonna, SAAM II, SimBiology, PML, NONMEM) and familiarity with data handling (e.g. R, MATLAB)
  • Demonstration of development of custom PK, PBPK, PKPD and/or PopPK models
