Sr Research Associate II, Protein Engineering

Job Description

We have an opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate II to join our Biology Core Support group. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and display professional judgment in all aspects of daily research and presentations. This person will work in collaboration with research project teams to generate and validate reagent and potential therapeutic proteins.  The candidate should be team-oriented, hard-working, friendly and interested in learning new skills.

Specific Responsibilities

  • A detailed knowledge of biochemistry and protein engineering, with several years of experience in purifying and characterizing a variety of recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and antibody scaffolds (eg bispecific antibodies) to support the preclinical development of biopharmaceutical programs across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Hands-on experience in the purification techniques including affinity (Ni-NTA, Prot-A/G/L, anti-flag, etc), ion exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic interaction chromatography using FPLC platforms (GE-Akta) is required
  • Proficiency with various analytical protein characterization techniques such as SEC-HPLC, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, Endosafe
  • Experience with other molecular assessment/characterization technologies (DLS, DSC, SEC-MALS, LC/MS, HIC-HPLC, stability assessment, glycan analysis, iCE) would be a strong plus                                   
  • Knowledge and application of Uncle (Tm,Tagg, etc) and formulation experience, automated liquid handling systems (Hamilton, Bravo) highly valued                                                                                          
  • Aseptic technique and experience with mammalian cell culture-Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment                                                                                                        
  • Ability to perform method development, write protocols, maintain detailed records and inventory

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with supervisory personnel to develop routine research methods.                                                                            
  • Demonstrates and applies advanced level of understanding project goals and methods.
  • Selects appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments.                                         
  • Independently plans, executes or recommends alternative research new methods and techniques and proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to non-routine activities to further project goals.
  • Uses good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to provide insight into the processes used to achieve results of assigned tasks                                                                                                                   
  • Participates in group meetings. Presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.  Acts as a resource for other employees within the department
  • Developed skills in data analysis and ability to evaluate the quality of data.
  • Maintains familiarity with scientific literature and applies appropriately to research projects.

Knowledge Experience and Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience with BS degree in a related scientific discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience with MS degree in a related scientific discipline.

This is a non-PhD level lab based position.
