Job Description

Seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative individual with a strong passion for and dedication to discovery of new life-saving medicines. The candidate will join our internal efforts focused on the research and development of novel HIV cure therapeutics, including small molecule drugs, biologics and vaccines. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment to discover and optimize biologics for research and clinical development.  Primary responsibilities will include: designing and optimizing novel biologics, conducting in vitro and in vivo studies to characterize newly discovered molecules as well as designing and evaluating new targets and therapeutic approaches in a fast-paced team environment.  The successful candidate will play a leading role in establishing new biotherapeutics discovery capabilities and support lead optimization efforts for HIV cure related projects. The successful candidate would be expected lead cross-functional research teams.  In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to do the following:

Essential Duties and Job Functions

  • Design and develop novel biologics as potential therapeutic candidates
  • Design, coordinate and execute key in vitro and in vivo proof-of-concept studies including NHP models
  • Conduct in-depth characterization of mechanisms of antiviral activity
  • Identify, evaluate, and support relevant external collaborations
  • Directly manage scientists
  • Develop, execute and troubleshoot assays and provide experimental guidance to direct reports
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Present regular research updates to project teams and R&D management

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • PhD in molecular biology, virology, oncology, immunology or relevant life science discipline
  • Minimum of 7+ years post PhD experience or the equivalent focused on innovative research in virology, oncology and/or immunology with proven achievements in industrial or academic settings. With at least 3+yrs industry is preferred
  • Strong level of understanding and expertise in biologic platforms, viral immunology, immune oncology or evaluation of immunotherapeutics.
  • Experience with a broad array of technologies to support assay development and discovery research is required.
  • Hands-on experience in the design, implementation and characterization of biologics platform , expertise in molecular biology and cell culture, primary cell isolation and/or culture, immune cell functional assays including multi-color FACS and ELISA/Luminex.
  • Experience in assay development, ability to evaluate quality of the data, recognize anomalous results and interpret experimental outcomes is essential. 
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively within the Virology group and functional groups within Research.
