Job Description

Scope and Responsibilities

The SVP of Quality Assurance is Gilead’s head of quality who will lead an organization of exceptional professionals in quality and compliance working at 12 Gilead locations in 8 countries. The position is based at Gilead’s Headquarters in Foster City, California and reports directly to the Executive Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing.

In this role you will be accountable for leading the quality organization to:

  • Ensure GMP compliance for the manufacturing and controls, and the disposition of all drug substances and drug products of small molecules and biologics manufactured by or for Gilead for clinical use and commercial distribution
  • Provide effective quality systems, procedures and quality assurance personnel to sustain GMP compliance at Gilead
  • Drive quality culture throughout the organization
  • Interact with regulatory agencies worldwide on issues and actions relating to product quality and GMP compliance
  • Design, develop and implement global quality plan
  • Ensure internal facilities as well as external contract partners are in a continued state of regulatory inspection preparedness
  • Inform Gilead executive leaders of product quality and GMP compliance status
  • Provide periodic updates to Executive Management on state of Quality and Compliance within the Gilead network

Management Requirements

Leading the quality assurance organization of 350+ employees, you will provide vision and direction on:

  • Fostering an inclusive workplace, creating staff development opportunities, advocating a quality culture and achieving high performance
  • Operational focus, fiscal accountability and long-term strategy in sync with R&D pipeline, commercial portfolio and company strategy

Qualifications & Job Requirements

  • Over 20 years of GMP experience in pharmaceutical industry, with knowledge of global GMP requirements
  • Demonstrated success in leading a quality assurance organization at a global level in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated ability to establish working relationships with cross-functional groups and to reach common understanding on quality issues
  • Familiarity with electronic quality systems and data analytics of quality metrics
  • Demonstrated fiscal accountability
  • Expert knowledge of US and international pharmaceutical regulations, standards and current industry practices
  • Extensive experience with regulatory agency interactions, especially with FDA and EMA
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to efficiently and productively communicate both orally and in writing
  • BA or BS in Life Sciences or relevant field, advanced degree preferred
