Computational Biologist

The Computational Biology team within GSK Functional Genomics supports drug discovery and development across the GSK R&D organisation through integrative analysis of all forms of functional genomics data as well as the development of new computational and statistical methods to understand the underlying biological mechanisms driving disease. We contribute to multiple phases of the drug discovery pipeline and our work drives the development of new medicines for important diseases of unmet medical need.

You & Your Responsibilities:
The GSK Computational Biology team in Functional Genomics is seeking a self-motivated Computational Biologist to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team to support GSK's mission.

Your primary focus will be to perform analysis of functional genomics data and develop and use computational biology methods to impact GSK's drug discovery and development pipeline. Applicants should have strong analytical skills and a background in any of the following areas: bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and genomics, combined with a knowledge of biology.

You should be comfortable working independently in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment, and you will be expected to communicate complex informatics principles, methods and analyses to scientists from diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, you will be expected to develop and advance your computational biology skills as well as your internal and external scientific profile through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, genomics or a related field; or MSc and demonstrable experience in the fields above.
• Experience in using a programming language (such as R, Python Perl, and/or SQL) for complex data analysis.
• Knowledge of fundamental concepts in biology and statistics.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in teams.

Preferred qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in processing data from large scale functional genomic platforms, such as transcriptomics, proteomics or metabolomics.
• Knowledge of the use of functional genomics methods, such as CRISPR gene editing, in phenotypic screens with univariate or high dimensional readouts.
• Knowledge of and experience with single cell genomic profiling methods, such as single cell RNASeq, and data analysis.
• Knowledge of pathway and network methods for the analysis and interpretation of functional genomic data.
• A track record of research in oncology or immuno-inflammation.
• Skills to collect, integrate, mine and analyze complex biological data and translate them into testable hypotheses.
• Knowledge of and experience with common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools.
• Knowledge of the drug discovery and development process.
• Publication record in peer reviewed journals.
