Team Leader IP Formalities & Watching Services

As the Team Leader IP Formalities & Watching Services, you will be accountable for a part of the leadership and management of the Formalities function now under the management of IP Services (formerly within Global Patents and LBP), including its service delivery, training, education and morale/culture/cohesion.

The Team Leader will lead a team of five people combined from GP and LBP and will be responsible (along with the other Team Leaders) for ensuring service delivery for both functions.

• Manage a team of UK formalities staff ensuring that they deliver a high standard of service for attorneys across the various groups within GP and LBP while ensuring that the databases used to manage the rights within GP and LBP are properly updated and maintained.
• Will be responsible for UK and International patent and trade mark work for both GP and LBP (Along with their team)
• Provide leadership to the UK formalities staff teams through communication, coaching and guidance (particularly around GP and LBP processes and GSK behaviours).
• As a new position, the role requires the ability to handle 'transition' and drive for continuous improvement. In particular, the Team Leader should have knowledge and understanding of LBP and/or GP processes and looks for simplification and improvement opportunities.
• To act as a change catalyst to implement changes/make improvements to overall support function performance and delivery in a fast moving, pressurised environment to meet tight and demanding deadlines.
• Ensure that decisions related to Patent and LBP formalities services, strategies and solutions are central to its agenda.
• Liaising with external customers and developing key stakeholder relationships, particularly with the patent support team (which includes paralegals and administrative staff) and the LBP paralegal team.
• Monitoring of team deadlines/overseeing casework handled by junior members of the team.
• Troubleshooting issues arising in departmental processes and providing guidance and advice to junior members of the team.
• Training of junior members of the team in patent and/or trade mark formalities practice.
• The Team Leader will assume responsibility for "Watching and Searching Services" for LBP alongside their other responsibilities.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
• Experience working within a formalities function either in patent or trade mark practice or as a patent or trade mark paralegal.
• Qualifications in patent and/or formalities practice preferred e.g. CIPA Administrators Course.
• Relevant or applicable line and/or matrix management experience.
• Sound understanding of GP and/or LBP policies and processes.
• Patent and/or trade mark functional knowledge including filing and docketing applications.
• High-level of expertise in standard Microsoft packages, Legal eDocs, TIPMS and/or Anaqua
• Excellent communication, problem solving and influencing skills.
• Strong project management, facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated analytical skills and experience of working with metrics and managing large volumes of data.
• Strong process orientation and process improvement and project management skills.
• In depth customer service orientation - they will be the "go-to" person for LBP and/or GP staff including Senior Management.
• Ability to deliver results that add business benefit under own initiative and to work relatively independently to achieve goals.
• Self-starter able to maintain motivation and determination to see work through over prolonged periods.
• Experience of exercising good judgment and working with a variety of different people.
• High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality at all levels.
