UK Pensions Director

We are searching for a UK Pensions Director who can make a positive difference to the Benefits team and GSK as a whole and who can inspire others to do the same. Come and join the team! WHAT IS YOUR JOB PURPOSE?
You will have a great opportunity to work in a progressive and fast moving environment at a senior level, on some of the largest pension arrangements in the UK. (GSK's UK Pension plan membership is over 83,000 and DC and CIF assets combined are in the order of £13 billion invested in various asset classes and with several investment managers)

You will provide leadership of the UK pensions function at an operational and strategic level, working with the Company and the pension plan Trustees to set and influence the direction of the UK pension plans, taking into account factors such as risk, funding and legislative change.

You will be required to attend Trustee and company meetings, providing consultancy insight and present analysis of complex issues and solutions to senior stakeholders.

WHAT ARE YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES?
• You will lead the UK Pensions function, reporting to the Senior Director of Benefits Strategy & Operations, UK, in the delivery of the operational, Trustee secretarial and strategic services to the pension plan active, deferred and retired members, the Pension Plan Trustees and the company.
• You will be responsible for effectively managing the pensions plan operational and administrative services and third party administration providers, setting direction, managing risk and service issues as required.
• You will proactively propose changes to how the pensions and other savings plans are delivered. This could arise from corporate activity, business needs and external changes such as legislation changes, industry best practice and market developments. You will work with other GSK functions to determine the appropriate positioning of any changes, internal approval process and employee communications.
• You will lead strategic reviews into the evolution of pensions and savings programs as the legislative environment changes and needs arise, for example, potential alternative savings vehicles. • Relationships with external providers will be key, ensuring that there is appropriate communication between the actuaries, legal advisers and consultants. You will actively manage the performance of the providers, ensuring delivery is in line with agreed requirements and budget. Negotiation and active management of costs incurred by providers will also be required.
• You will be the main point of contact and support for senior management within the organisation on personal pension issues and will draft communications to senior employees regarding pensions issues as required.
• Management of the technical, compliance and benefits issues in relation to the unfunded plans will be required.
• You will lead on the pensions technical and funding aspects of acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures, actively participating in working groups/projects as required to support the business in the delivery of these critical issues.
• You will also lead on the review and agreement of trustee legal documentation including Deeds of Amendment and Adherence, providing the Trustees with appropriate information and background in conjunction with professional advisers to agree the content and taking responsibility for ensuring timely agreement and signature by the Trustees and the Company.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
• Strong working knowledge of UK Pensions & Employee Savings plans, regulations and HMRC requirements and ability to apply these in the context of role with broader HR policies and objectives.
• Strong track record of leading and managing a pensions function at an operational and strategic level
• Strong written and oral communications, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely. Includes experience of delivering presentations / Q&A sessions.
• Proven and demonstrable stakeholder management.
• Strong ability to influence and negotiate in order to set direction and drive delivery of results.
• Strong vendor management skills with the ability to understand contracts, setting of service level agreements and challenging non compliance.
• Demonstrated experience of managing projects including preparing project plans, timelines and STPs.
• Ability to interpret data to demonstrate a return on investment.
• Ability to analyse complex benefit information and draw recommendations/make decisions.
• Ability to coach, motivate and facilitate.
• Strong leadership/people management skills demonstrated at a senior level.
• Flexibility to manage multiple benefit plans and ability to manage multiple and often conflicting priorities.
