The employment team of Lewis Silkin is one of the leading employment law practices both domestically and internationally. The employment team is amongst the largest in the UK with 24 employment / immigration partners and around 100 other specialist lawyers.
The team’s work comprises a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters for a diverse range of clients. Our lawyers undertake a significant amount of business development, including giving seminars, producing Lewis Silkin branded publications and driving client relationships. International advice is central to our practice and we are members of the Ius Laboris international alliance of employment lawyers.
The role will be based in our London Office and the successful candidate will work principally with Nicholas Hadaway in servicing, and further developing, the senior executive practice within the team.Responsibilities
While the successful candidate will undertake a range of employment work, there will be a significant focus on contentious matters and related advice for high value individuals in the financial and professional service sectors.
The Senior Associate will assist Partners as well as run his or her own matters under supervision. Your typical workload is likely to include:
Advising high net worth individuals - particularly (though not exclusively) senior management of leading businesses, and individuals drawn from right across the financial sector, including private equity, hedge funds and other alternative asset management businesses.
Advising on sensitive discrimination, whistleblowing, and contract (typically bonus) claims, covering both Employment Tribunal and High Court litigation.This will include assisting with litigating some of the most complex and high value employment cases in the City.
Advising approved persons on FCA regulatory matters: the senior manager, certification, and conduct regimes; the Remuneration Code, and other related matters.
Advising on issues around enforcement of restrictive covenants.
Also advising senior individuals on less contentious but often highly complex contractual arrangements - both on entry to and exit from the business concerned.This is an important part of the practice, and typically involves an analysis of, and negotiations around, individuals’ rights and responsibilities as shareholders, directors, employees, and/or partners.
The Division’s training programme includes seminars and workshops given by external speakers and by our own internal experts. We have dedicated Practice Development Lawyers who are responsible for maintaining know-how and precedents across the team, as well as the Lewis Silkin Business School which provides our Associates with the tools and skills necessary to develop.
The successful candidate will be allocated a Career Development Partner (CDP) who will have an overview of their long term career aspirations and progression. The successful candidate is likely to have 5+ years PQE and have gained the benefit of training and development in a well-respected employment team.
The candidate must have comprehensive employment law knowledge, a strong analytical ability and a clear communication style (both spoken and written). They must have a commercial approach to client service, enjoy and be comfortable doing business development and, above all, must be a team player.
