This Procurement leader develops, directs and implements large, complex, business critical, regional and global strategic sourcing initiatives to achieve savings and cost effectiveness supporting globalClinical Trials.Total spend managed is $150M/year or larger.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Global procurement category ownership with responsibility for strategic execution of all subcontracted clinical services supporting clinical trials including but not limited to ePRO, EDC, IRBs, Translation Services, Virtual Trial Services, Patient Travel, Emerging Clinical Trial Technologies on a global basis.
  • Position requires strategic business partnering with Clinical Project Management, Therapeutic Area Leads, Business Development, Quality, Legal, IT, Finance and other Global Procurement colleagues globally.
  • Leadership role to influence business strategies, leverage emerging trends, and identify opportunity areas that deliver sustainable value. Act as strategic enablers of change, introduce new ideas and innovative solutions and is often consulted to support customer proposal development.
  • Directs cross-functional teams of stakeholders through a consistent sourcing process to deliver breakthrough results.
  • Scope is global and includes strategy development (demand side) and ensuring strategies are implemented within PtP execution (supply side).
  • Leadership position within Procurement that regularly interacts with executive management and is responsible for leading, teaching and directing Sourcing Managers, and Analysts throughout the sourcing processes as well as key processes/skills (e.g., spend management analysis, stakeholder management, etc.).
  • Will develop, maintain and implement a 3-5 year strategic plan and ensure all projects supporting the strategic plan deliver maximum value.
  • Will develop and maintain self-service tools to allow project managers to purchase from PPD's preferred suppliers via rate cards.
  • Must be able to view end-to-end business process and value chain to drive best value for PPD and its customers.
  • Serves as the global subject matter expert for all subcontracted clinical services.
  • Commercially supports PPD's Vendor Management program and facilitates continuous improvement and innovation that will enable PPD to support our customer's clinical trial objectives.

Job Qualification:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification.

• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10 - 12+ years') or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 5+ years of leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Advanced knowledge and understanding of both the commercial and technical aspects of the Clinical Trial process, the CRO industry with a focus on support services typically subcontracted by CRO's
• Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives on both strategic and tactical levels.
• Effective negotiation, project management and creative problem solving skills.
• Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
• Advanced level of skill in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentation of data.
• Ability to work with ambiguity and complexity.
• Demonstrated executive presence and strong consultation and presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to continually changing priorities. Extensive knowledge of strategic sourcing or expert-level knowledge of operations.
• Ability to lead cross-functional projects.

Management Role: Daily oversight of staff including making work assignments. Develop staff to support departmental succession planning goals. Assess staff performance and provide feedback and coaching for career development. Foster a work environment that aligns with PPD's defining principles.
