Instructional Design Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Segment Design team is an internal Instructional Design Center of Excellence that supports the full breadth of The Walt Disney Company. The team designs and develops custom learning solutions to support the Company’s highest priorities. These solutions range from broad, Enterprise wide courses, like Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion to custom, but highly impactful topics that align to specific business goals.

Due to the variety of learning needs the team supports, the work requires a high degree of analytical ability to identify gaps in performance, creativity to propose and develop solutions appropriate to the situation, and agility to continue progress through change.


The Instructional Design Project Manager (IDPM) is responsible for end-to-end development and often performs multiple functions on a project, including Project Management, Instructional Design, Instructional Writer, and sometimes even technical development. The IDPM must be able to quickly assess audience demographics and identify the appropriate learning solution to meet the business need, including: instructor led, blended, experiential, media based, performance support, and other emerging technologies.

This position interacts directly with multiple teams within the learning organization, client representatives, and subject matter experts. Therefore, individuals are required to work with a high degree of collaboration, consultation, and focus on client service. Each IDPM generally carries 3 to 5 projects of varying complexities and with different points of contact simultaneously. Priorities change rapidly, so the ability to pivot quickly and effectively is an absolute requirement.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess an in-depth understanding of adult learning theory principles
  • Assess learning needs accurately and propose creative and effective learning solutions
  • Author scripts and other course materials, applying various writing styles and demonstrating an expertise in grammar, punctuation, spelling, company nomenclature, and copyright compliance
  • Initiate and manage throughout the lifecycle of a project, including: initiation, designing project plans, executing all milestones and tasks, monitoring risk, and successfully reaching stated learning goals
  • 3 to 5 years previous experience or related skills in Instructional Design work in a corporate or academic setting.
  • Experience with Instructional Design development tools, such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, as well as Captivate, Adobe creative suite or other graphics programs.
