Multiplatform Strategy & Content Planning Associate, NatGeo Channels

Job Summary:

The National Geographic Channels Multiplatform Strategy & Content Planning Associate is responsible for inputting, maintaining and communicating the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild multiplatform programming schedules across all platforms. This includes the accurate creation of schedules and metadata, ordering and distribution of art and all other duties related to TVE, VOD and other nonlinear platforms. The associate will recommend content plans and schedule updates and communicate all information and changes to key internal departments (i.e., Linear Scheduling, Ad Sales, Broadcast Operations, Business Operations, NG Studios, Production, etc.). The position requires an understanding of content scheduling, nonlinear platforms and keen interest in the factual television landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the National Geographic Channels Scheduling team and the Platform Strategy team to translate and implement overarching channel strategies into specific scheduling tactics
  • Implement the network nonlinear schedule and program entries into various shared drives, documents and internal scheduling database systems
  • Coordinate and communicate plans with a variety of departments to ensure materials are ready, schedules are correct and that the requisite teams are fully up-to-date regarding current schedules and content roll-out
  • Provide scheduling information and support with our direct-to-consumer partners (Disney+, Hulu, Star) and plan and distribute scheduling information related to the Home Entertainment distribution of all National Geographic Channels TV content
  • Source, create and cutdown descriptive series, season and episode metadata and confirm distribution rights and licensing windows
  • Identify, create and route change memos as necessary to reflect programming shifts and video delivery inaccuracies
  • Liaise with the research team to monitor performance of content across the multiplatform landscape and utilize that information to inform future strategies
  • Maintain National Geographic Channels TVE home page playlists and heroes, create collection hubs for National Geographic Channels TV priorities and events
  • As required, provide support for the wider National Geographic and Programming department including cross training to support other channels and platforms and assisting on ad hoc projects
  • Represent National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild Programming in departmental meetings

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in video content planning, programming or scheduling related field
  • Familiarity with audience engagement strategies
  • Creative and strategic thinker who can solve complex problems and identify creative solutions
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, prioritize workflow and work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to build and manage relationships
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly, and work independently
  • Demonstrated experience with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Google Docs, Power Point, Keynote
  • Knowledge of the following systems a plus: VPS, MPX, VOD+/Media Hub, Onyx, Bebanjo, Tableau, Adobe Analytics

Preferred Education

  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Television or equivalent work experience
