Senior Marine Claims Representative

Job Summary:

As Senior Marine Claims Representative, you will be a key member of the Risk Management department for Disney Cruise Line. This role oversees the liability investigations of maritime illness, bodily injury, and subrogation claims. The position partners with a team of Claims Representatives of varying levels of experience and analyzes claims volume and recognizes exposure of claims files. Additionally, this role participates with the Legal Department in review of lawsuits and participates in initiatives to meet the department’s goals and objectives.

Candidates must be able and willing to travel to respond to incidents or conduct site visits when the ship is in port, after hours or on weekends as necessary.


  • For cases involving our Crew Members, administer benefits as required and in accordance with applicable maritime laws, regulations, and contracts
    • Recognize and address all issues with the case and advocate on behalf of the Crew Member
    • Prepare payments for maintenance and cure and other costs with emphasis on correctness, efficiency and in a timely manner
  • Review of claim files in accordance with department operating guidelines
  • Recognizing and responding to incidents that have significant exposure
  • Administer claims with complex maritime considerations and claims with costly and complex medical treatment
  • Escalating incidents with potential excess coverage exposure
  • Place P&I Club (insurer) on notice for appropriate claims and collaborate with them on strategy for resolution. Monitor/track reimbursement
  • Help set, implement and achieve department goals and strategies
  • Review claim files for timeliness, accuracy, and action-planning that will bring files to successful and cost-effective resolution

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6-20 All-Lines Adjusters’ License with the State of Florida
  • Minimum 3 years marine claims handling experience
  • Demonstrated ability to administer litigated claims, including experience in depositions, hearing testimony, mediation, and comprehensive case evaluation
  • Demonstrated familiarity with automated claims administration and management systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Understanding of medical and legal terminology
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to deliver concise and informative summaries
  • Demonstrated strong partnering skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated strong relationship-building, negotiating, and influencing abilities
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work under deadline pressures and effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of medical and legal terminology
  • Computer proficiency within a Windows environment; including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cruise line operations
  • Experience in maritime industry and familiarity with Protection & Indemnity (P&I) insurance and claims
  • Proven bilingual ability
  • Demonstrated experience in processing and handling Crew maritime related claims

Required Education

  • High School degree or equivalent

Preferred Education

  • Degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field
