A Little About the Role

As the Principal Designer of the Design System team, you will have the unique opportunity to influence the product direction for Verizon Media's business products and services. You will blend world class visual design with classic interaction design principles to support the goal of empowering our teams to efficiently create beautiful products that are easy to use.

As part of the Unified Design System team you will craft, standardize, and champion a reusable and scalable set of components that will be adopted by multiple product design teams. The role will require you to be a passionate collaborator who focuses on designing solutions that our users love and defining processes and tools that empower our designers to move forward.

You will work closely with a highly collaborative team of product designers, user researchers, product managers, marketers, technologists, and business leaders to bring ideas to life. Moreover, you will help to mentor the design team to grow their skills and take our products to the next level. This role will be based in New York City with occasional travel between different offices in the US and internationally (dependent upon travel guidelines/restrictions).

Responsibilities Include
  • Design, build, and maintain our library of shared components. Establish and refine processes for growing and maturing the library. Maintain the symbol library used for various design tools.
  • Lead innovation with stunning visual designs and effectively communicate them through wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows etc. for final hand-off to engineering.
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the company to deliver new and innovative experiences.
  • Mentor team members to raise the bar on our creative thinking and execution.
  • Ensure work across the team is of the highest quality and the implemented products accurately reflect the design vision.

A Little About You
  • A strong design background and passion for creating beautiful products that work well. You have experience in both the consumer and enterprise space with a particular emphasis on products that feature a lot of interaction -- data visualization experience is a plus!
  • You thrive in the face of ambiguity and complexity and know how to execute across a globally distributed environment. You have excellent communication skills across all mediums and experience influencing diverse sets of stakeholders. Your teammates love collaborating with you!
  • Previous experience crafting and growing a design system for complex products across desktop and mobile. Ideally, the system was applied to a diverse set of products and featured multiple releases that demonstrate continual growth and maturity of the system.
  • Experience creating a roadmap and driving it to implementation/adoption across multiple teams and products.
  • Solid craftsmanship: skilled in both the theory and practice of design, up-to-date on design patterns, ability to differentiate between trends and emerging best practices, comfortable with a range of prototyping tools (e.g., InVision and Framer), familiar with user research methods, and a firm understanding of user-centered design and when to apply different tools and processes to achieve a successful outcome.
