Pension Calculation Developer

In partnership with others in our distributed team, the Retirement Calculation Developer implements and supports all aspects per detailed requirements of Willis Towers Watson technology solutions including calculation engine development, automated process development, employee facing application configuration, employee communications development, and database configuration. In addition, the Retirement Calculation Developer will use Willis Towers Watson proprietary data management tool to convert and process ongoing data.

The Role

  • Develop and unit test the calculation engine, system processes and participant communications for the plan or plans that fall within the scope of the project. 
  • Configure and release the employee experience.
  • Analyze and fix defects that are reported by local resources during Quality Assurance (QA) testing and by the client during User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Help develop and support a common client system technology architecture that is used to promote consistency, standards, and improve maintainability across client implementations.
  • Contribute to the development of new tools, processes and solutions to create efficiencies and meet clients’ outsourcing needs.
  • Deliver the solution to the client’s production environment and provide ongoing support for defect/fix and client requested enhancements as necessary.   
  • Follow firm and line of business processes, protocols and quality standards in the development and deployment of solutions.
  • Load data into the web application database as necessary to support participant calculations.
  • Work with the Retirement Implementation Specialist (RIS) to assure that the system is setup according to specifications and request clarification as necessary when interpreting plan specifications.
  • Work with the development team to share ideas and continually improve system setup competencies.
  • Work with the Project Manager and RIS to understand and deliver according to project timelines and milestones. Communicate issues and report progress and status relative to plan.
  • Contribute to successful project management.
  • Work with RIS to ensure appropriate team progress against established goals; communicate status to Project Manager and RIS as appropriate.
  • Manage client expectations and raise appropriate issues to Project Managers and Consultants.
  • Develop a trusted advisor relationship with internal clients through effective communication and efficient, quality execution of projects.
  • Identify potential conflicts and work to keep open and clear communications between applicable project stakeholders.
  • Meet revenue and billable hour goals as defined by your manager.
  • Work within prescribed budget for project plans.

The Requirements

  • Significant experience with pension administration projects working in collaboration with technical and/or retirement resources.
  • Understanding of pension administration technology, including interaction of data and system programming.
  • Strong data analysis and manipulation skills.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience developing calculation engines using Excel.
  • Recognize the importance of development standards and support their use on projects.
  • Ability to collaborate with members of a Retirement team to achieve a defined project outcome.
  • Strong communication skills including ability to interpret documented plan provisions.
  • Accomplishment oriented, proactive, and focused on delivering quality products in a timely fashion.
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science or other major with significant quantitative course work strongly preferred; high school diploma required.
