Michael is an international competitive swimmer best known for participating in the 200 metre butterfly event. He holds dual Jamaican and British citizenship and is the current national record holder for the 200 metre butterfly, and the 200 and 400 metre freestyle events.

Join the conversation with global d&I leaders as they come together to share best practices on effective, action-orientated strategies for the workplace. Chaired by Sanjay Sood-Smith – Stonewall, the discussion will include accountability and success measures for inclusive culture building as well as understanding the risks and benefits of engaging in diversity and inclusion development and how to best achieve long-term engagement around these efforts.

    I am an experienced & passionate Diversity & Inclusion professional of over 16 years, building cultures of allyship, inclusion and belonging. Specialist in Allyship, Inclusive Leadership, ERG/employee network governance, LGBTQI+ inclusion, employee diversity data and self-identification. I joined Microsoft in 2020 after over 15 years at EY, where I joined the firm's Diversity & Inclusiveness team in 2007 after several years in EY’s Human Capital team. Before joining EY, I spent 4.5 years at Fidelity International, including time working in India on offshoring projects. I'm proud to have been named in the UK Pride Power List 2016 - 2023. Education-wise, I hold a BSc International Studies (Hons) degree from the Open University which I achieved during my time at EY and have more recently achieved a Level 6 Certificate in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). In 2019 I was also proud to have taken part in the first cohort of ESCP Europe Business School's LGBT+ Leadership Programme.

    Michael Gunning is best known as a international competitive swimmer having attended two FINA World Swimming Championships. Holding dual Jamaican and British citizenship, he represented Team GB in the European LEN Cup and after the Rio Olympic Games he changed alliances to represent his fathers heritage of Team Jamaica. Gunning took a break from competing in the Summer of 2018 to participate in the award-winning television series 'The Bi Life' for E! Entertainment & NBC Universal. It was Michael's first public discussion of his sexuality, making him the Caribbean’s first openly gay athlete / swimmer. Since then, Michael is a regular pundit and avid speaker for the sport and recently partnered with Sky Sports, Stonewall and Athlete Ally as a Professional Ambassador/Advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in sport. With a heavy passion for TV Presenting and educational background in Children’s Entertainment, he welcomes new and exciting media opportunities in the world of entertainment.
