Pride in lockdown

Outline: More than 100 Pride events have now been cancelled or postponed.With large pride celebrations such as Pride Edinburgh, LA Pride and Tokyo Pride being removed from this year's calendar, some LGBT leaders are concerned their communities may suffer.

Hear from LGBTQ+ Pride groups and the impact of lockdown on Pride celebrations and the way forward.

A keen activist for positive promotion and equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community and all, Saski has appeared on several BBC TV and Radio shows, promoting inclusion and has also worked closely with a variety of charities and organisations as an interviewer, LGBTQ+ Inclusion Trainer, guest speaker and Host, Including Diva Magazine, PRIDE London, Mermaids, Diversity Role Models, Clexacon, The British Youth Council and P3 Parenting Network to name but a few.     Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, widely known as Lady Phyll, is the executive director and co-founder of UK Black Pride - Europe's largest celebration for LGBTQ+ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern descent. Lady Phyll has over 20 years’ experience as an LGBTQ+ rights activist and anti-racism campaigner. She has spent a decade advocating for the rights of workers within the largest civil service union as a lead negotiator on behalf of Civil Service workers and is now the Executive Director of Kaleidoscope Trust an LGBT+ charity that works to defend and uphold human rights. She is also a patron for Albert Kennedy Trust; Diva Magazine columnist, and public speaker focusing on race, gender, sexuality and class. She is named as one of the top 5 on the World Pride Power list.

    Dan is a highly experienced Sponsorship and Business Development Professional with extensive experience business growth, commercial development and investment strategy. Dan began his career in start-up’s; launching his own artist management company – Mercury Artist Management in 2011, before a record label as the Head of its UK A&R division. Dan was also part of the founding team responsible for the development and launch of KidZania London - a £24M new leisure and entertainment franchise to the UK Market. Dan led the UK commercial partnerships strategy, securing contracts with Shell, WWE, DreamWorks, Warner Bros and Nike. In his capacity at KidZania, Dan was also responsible for the successful partnership activation and delivery for Unilever, Al Jazeera, Vitabiotics and Cadbury’s. In 2019, Dan was also appointed to the Board of Directors of ‘Pride in London’ as its Strategic Partnerships Director and has been responsible for Pride in London’s most financially successful year in its history. Dan was also appointed to the board of ‘Anthem Wales’ by the Arts Director of the Arts Council, tasked with securing £22Million of investment into Wales' music and cultural landscape. Dan joined Gay Times Group in June 2019 as its Commercial Director.

    Hi All, My name is Matthew (He/Him/His) and I’m the festival director of Cape Town Pride/Regional Representative for Africa at InterPride and on the Global Advisory Council representing Africa. When I’m not hosting LGBTI+ Events I’m a lecturer at a private institute training teachers. I also LGBTI+ sensitivity workshops at corporate partners all over South Africa.
