Andy, Wholesale Account Manager, is Co-Chair of our Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I (BBG) Proud employee network. Andy tells us how the entire business gets behind the network.
I joined BBG in the field sales team in September 2017. Internally, I’ve always felt comfortable and I was able to be my true self since the beginning of my work journey here.
In 2019, we set up the company’s Proud employee network. We want to drive greater diversity so created an open and safe space where LGBT+ colleagues can come together to share personal experiences, hold discussions and celebrate diversity and inclusion. We work to support the business to continually recognize that we have LGBT+ people working for us, and that they respond with policies and procedures that are accessible and inclusive of LGBT+ people and their needs.
The whole business is behind us. There are representatives on our Proud network from across the entire BBG – myself in Field Sales, a colleague on every floor in our London office, and two sponsors from our Management Committee. We meet bi-monthly but should anyone wish to speak to us, we are easily recognizable by our rainbow lanyards! Colleagues also support us through our ally network.
Our brands are behind us too. Budweiser is a supporter of Pride and in 2019 launched its Fly the Flag campaign which supported Pride’s mission in championing and supporting every group within the LGBT+ community. All Budweiser profits from the participating Pride concession and trade bars, on the day of Pride London, were donated to charity partners that support the whole LGBT+ community.
A proud moment in 2019 was becoming a Stonewall diversity champion. This is Europe’s largest LGBT+ charity to support inclusivity in the workplace.
We rank as 11th in the consumer goods and retail sector in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. There is still a lot to do – but I am very proud that we made the commitment to benchmark ourselves. Stonewall’s evaluation and feedback will help us to make a clear plan to continue to drive forward inclusivity in the workplace.
