Amsterdam takes pride in the canal

More than 80 boats crossed the canal in Amsterdam centre to celebrate this years pride.

This years pride festival in Amsterdam was themed “Remember the past, create the future”, in memory of the police raid in a gay bar in New York 50 years ago, known as the “Stonewall Riots”. This event marked the modern-time gay rights movement.

“This year we are commemorating the Stonewall riots, which broke out in New York 50 years ago and form a decisive moment in the history of the LGBT-movement”, said Amsterdam Gay Pride director Lucien Spee.

Over 500,000 visitors from different corners of the world were there to cheer and celebrate the LGBT+ community.

This year marks the 24th edition of the parade in Amsterdam, held annually since 1996.
