Andi Mack Features First Disney Character to Come Out as Gay

Andi Mack has become the first Disney Channel show to have a character to come out as gay, with the character of Cyrus Goodman coming out on last Friday’s episode of the show, reports Digital Spy.

13-year-old Mack comes out at his grandmother’s mourning to his friend Jonah while explain his family’s Jewish foods: "That’s gefilte fish – skip that – and I’m gay.”

His friend replies, "Yeah? Okay, cool."

The character had previous come out his friends, but was reluctant to tell Jonah as he had a crush on him. This, however, marks the first time a Dinsey character has actually said the words “I’m gay.”

Joshua Rush, who plays Cyrus, took to twitter to say: "Every day is a blessing working on this show. This milestone is just another stitch in a rich and vibrant tapestry that is Cyrus Goodman."
