Another study finds more people are identifying as bisexual than ever before

A new study from YouGov Omnibus, surveying people across America, has found 25 percent of people identify as something other than straight. Respondents were asked to place themselves on the Kingsey scale, where 6 is completely homosexual and 0 is completely heterosexual.

This is an increase from the last time YouGov conducted the study, back in 2015, when 20 percent of respondents said they weren’t completely heterosexual. 78 percent said they were straight compared to 69 percent this year. Those who identified as completely homosexual also increased, from 4 percent to 5 percent.

The report found these numbers increased for younger people, with 37 percent of Americans aged 18 to 34 identifying as something other than heterosexual. While only 3 percent of that age group identified as completely homosexual.

Men and women were found equally as likely to have had a sexual experience with someone of the same sex, both at 18 percent, compared to 2015 where 20 percent of women reported having a sexual encounter with another woman, and only 15 percent of men said they’d had a sexual encounter with another man.

This study comes just after the results of a survey conducted by Whitman Insight Strategies found almost half of the LGBT+ community identified as bisexual.
