Being Human Awards: TLC Lions Reveal 2023's Winners & Finalists

The winners and finalists of the TLC Lions Being Human Awards 2023, striving to create a more human working world for all, have been revealed. The winners and finalists were recognized because of their commitment to human leadership, honoring the extraordinary work they’ve done in humanizing the workplace.

As the war for talent rages on, Gian Power, CEO of and Founder of TLC Lions, whose mission is to “humanize the working world through the power of storytelling”, believes that future has to be a more human one, which is why he created the 'Being Human Awards'.


The winners were revealed at an event held in London last week (on February 9, 2023) at the 5-star Pan Pacific London Hotel ballroom, which was attended by over 240 guests. Sir Trevor McDonald OBE, and patron of the UK's Missing People charity, delivered a heartwarming speech, about his lived experiences and the lessons learnt from interviewing some of the world’s most renowned leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and President George W. Bush. All proceeds generated from the awards evening went to Missing People charity.

HUMAN CEO OF THE YEAR

Winner: STUART WHITE, HSBC ASSET MANAGEMENT

Stuart White has been recognized for creating a strong DE&I culture and framework for his employees. Stuart has led the DE&I initiative within HSBC Asset Management since March 2020 as well as driving forward other initiatives supporting mental health and career support for women. Stuart has publicly shared part of his personal story, empowering other leaders to share their vulnerability, destigmatizing conversations around mental health. Stuart fosters a safe environment where employees can bring their authentic selves to work and truly care within teams.

Sarah Henchoz is often referred to as 'superwoman' for her support of others. Sarah’s leadership as a Partner and Mental Health Champion encourages employees to be open about their mental health, encouraging all employees to be their authentic self. Sarah has particularly supported those from under-represented communities, driving awareness and empowerment to ensure everyone has a voice. Sarah has been described as a human changemaker who leads and inspires from the front.

Winner: TAHSEEN SYED, LONDON METAL EXCHANGE

Tahseen Syed was nominated by her company for the extraordinary work she has done in promoting DE&I and wellbeing initiatives and creating a culture of care in her workplace. Tahseen’s drive to create meaningful change, a more inclusive workplace and bring mental wellbeing to the forefront led her to establish the LMEself Network at the London Metal Exchange. Tahseen has been described as an inspirational human who tirelessly cares for those around her.

Gymshark’s submission was raw and authentic. One of their core values as a company is to Be Human - promoting accessibility and inclusivity throughout their work. Their values promote the importance of putting family first, being honest and genuine in their approach. When asked what does being human really mean? At Gymshark it means to be yourself, make mistakes, learn from them, grow, succeed and better yourself in both a personal and professional manner.

MOST HUMAN TEAM CULTURE

Winner: INNOVATEHER

They have dedicated time to listen, implement and drive forward a workplace where all employees can bring their true, authentic selves to work each and every day.

BEST USE OF TECHNOLOGY TO CREATE A MORE HUMAN WORKPLACE

Winner: BEYONDTRUST

BeyondTrust has enabled a culture of trust by bringing people together to allow sharing of stories through candid conversation. They have understood the importance of utilising technology in effective onboarding, training and professional development. BeyondTrust have utilised their internal platforms to truly listen and create a sense of connection for employees globally. From a recent eNPS survey, BeyondTrust reported that more than 80% of the company feel that they can bring their whole selves to work.

MOST HUMAN HR STRATEGY FOR 2023

Winner: CRITEO

Criteo believes that ‘People are at the heart of who we are’ and are committed to supporting employees to succeed in their role, whilst balancing family, personal life and wellbeing. Their internal HR strategies demonstrate the importance of embracing different personalities and talents within the workplace. Conducting regular listening campaigns to hear what matters most to their employees, the People Team works closely with leaders to ensure that employees feel included and engaged at work everyday.

TLC LIONS SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD


Winner: SALLY COSGROVE, PwC

Sally Cosgrove has been recognized by the TLC Lions team as going above and beyond in helping drive our TLC Lions mission to humanise the working world through storytelling. Through her work as Partner and Head of People for Assurance at PwC, Sally empowers the next generation to prioritise their wellbeing and feel part of an organisation that encourages everyone to have a voice. Paving the way for the leaders of tomorrow, “Sally is a true humble leader who exudes genuine care for those in her teams,” said TLC Lions.
