Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Receive LGBT+ Ally Award From GLAAD

LGBT+ organisation GLAAD have announced they will honour music icons Beyoncé and Jay-Z with the Vanguard Award for outstanding allies to the community, reports the AV Club.

The Carters will be honoured at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on March 28 for having “made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.”

“Beyoncé and Jay-Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO.

“When Beyoncé and Jay-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear.

“We could not be prouder to stand with them to send a message of love during the biggest LGBTQ event in the world and to honour their work to bend the arc of justice forward for LGBTQ people, people of colour, and marginalized communities everywhere.”

The couple have been long supporters of LGBT+ rights, campaigning for equal marriage, hiring queer and trans people in their videos and in their crew, dedicating performances to incidents like the Pulse shooting, and having Laverne Cox be one of the faces of their sportswear line Ivy Park.

Jay-Z’s mother also recently came out as a lesbian and was honoured with the GLAAD Special Recognition Award last year.
