Bosnia and Herzegovina Will Host Their First Ever LGBT+ Pride

Organisers have promised that Bosnia and Herzegovina will host their first ever LGBT+ Pride in the city of Sarajevo, reports Euro News.

The announcement was made by a group of 15 committee leaders for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian (BiH) Pride March.

“BiH finally gets its Pride March, a protest against inequality and violation of human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, and queer persons," said Branko Ćulibrk, one of the organisers.

“Pride marches take place everywhere in the region,” added another organiser, Dajana Bakic.

“The climate has generally changed and we expect that a large number of citizens will come to show solidarity with us.”

Homosexuality was only decriminalised in the region in 1998, and while anti-discrimination protections for LGBT+ people were passed in 2016 the country still has yet to legalise same-sex marriage.

There have been several previous attempts to host a pride in the country, all have been met with violence.

In 2008, an LGBT+ event was targeted by protesters who threw rocks at attendees, and in 2014 several masked men attacked people during a queer film festival.
