Brazilian President to Remove Any Mention of LGBT+ People from Schools
Jair Bolsonaro, the new far right President of Brazil, has revealed that his government will remove all LGBT+ content from school textbooks and exams, reports the Associated Press.
Any references to homosexuality, as well as feminism and violence against women will be erased, he will also allow the military to take over some public schools.
“One of the goals to take Brazil from the worst positions in the world’s education rankings is to combat the Marxist waste that has spread in educational institutions,” Bolsonaro had tweeted on the eve of his inauguration.
“Together with the Minister of Education and others involved we will evolve into creating citizens and no more political militants.”
Education Minister, Ricardo Velez Rodriguez, also doubled down on Bolsonaro’s anti-LGBT rhetoric, saying he wanted to end the “aggressive promotion of the gender ideology.”
