Chicago Celebrates Pride With 14 Rainbow Crossings
Chicago has celebrated Pride Month by installing 14 rainbow crossings throughout the city, reports the Chicago Sun Times.
The project was funded by donated money from Chicago Pride Fest. The crossings will also include a blue, pink and white version to mark the transgender flag.
They will be completed by 22 June, the start of Chicago Pride Fest.
“Fifty years ago, it was against the law for homosexuals to congregate. The police would arrest us,” said Stu Zirin, vice president of the Northalsted Business Alliance.
“As we step onto the crosswalks, we have to remember our history and how hard it was — as we look forward to a bright future.”
