CrossFit Games to Allow Trans Athletes to Compete

Trans athletes are now allowed to compete in the CrossFit Games.

Previously trans athletes could compete, but had to register under the gender they were assigned at birth. CrossFit chair and founder Greg Glassman said the decision to amend the policy to allow trans people to compete as the gender they identify with was “the right thing to do.”

“CrossFit believes in the potential, capacity, and dignity of every athlete,” he said to Them. “We are proud of our LGBT community, including our transgender athletes, and we want you here with us.”

CrossFit athlete and trans woman Chloie Jönsson had sued the organisation back in 2014 to change their policy. The lawsuit was ultimately settled in 2015. Speaking to Buzzfeed News she said, “It’s huge for us.” She added that she didn’t hold any grudges. “There’s no reason to hold any negative feelings toward CrossFit.”
