Danish sports brand shows support for LGBT+ Russians

Hummel, the sports label behind the official football jersey’s for the Danish team in the FIFA World Cup, have thrown their support behind LGBT+ Russians. The Danish brand has attempted to erect a giant rainbow football shirt in central Moscow for the World Cup, but have been unable to get permits because of its “apparent rainbow activism”. Instead the shirt is on display in Aarhus harbour in Denmark.

The reasoning behind the giant shirt was to embolden Hummel’s slogan: ”Change the world through sport”.

“We have been engaged in promoting LGBT rights in Germany and Denmark for some time. Naturally, we wanted to include this message in this summer’s activities,” said Ulrik Feldskov Juul, a spokesperson for the company.

He said the company has been in conversation with the Russian non-profit LGBT Sport Federation about how to help the community. “We are full of respect for the work they do,” he continued. “Which is why we support the Diversity House in Moscow, where we among others provide campaign materials and jerseys for the LGBT football tournament Football For All.”

Hummel haven’t given up after not being allowed to display their giant rainbow T-shirt. ”It has been quite demanding to move the event. Therefore, we are now turning up our ambitions to selling the rainbow jerseys and hopefully, we can send a clear message and a large cheque to the LGBT organization in Russia.”

A rainbow version of the Danish jersey will be for sale in Denmark, Germany and England, all proceeds will go to the Russian LGBT Sport Federation.
