“Death to Gays” Preacher Banned from Australia

Steven Anderson, the US-based evangelical preacher who has openly called for the death penalty to be brought against gay people, has been banned from entering Australia.

Anderson is the leader of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Arizona and preaches his hateful rhetoric to 100,000 YouTube subscribers.

He had planned on visiting Australia in November for series of tours to local Baptist churches.

“Basically, I’m banned from Australia,” he said in one of his latest videos. “My ETA [visa] was denied by Australia. I’m not going to be permitted to enter the country.”

Anderson expressed hope at moving the tour to New Zealand: “I’m planning on flying out to New Zealand this November, basically the same dates… so I’m just gonna shift it over to New Zealand.

“I’d love to do a soul-winning and preaching event in Christchurch and Auckland, New Zealand.

“I’m hoping that many of the people that would have heard me in Australia will just hop over the water and participate [there instead].”

However, in the wake of the Christchurch terrorist attack earlier this year New Zealand has clamped down on hate speech. Anderson’s visa will most likely be denied there as well.
