Dykes on Decks Host Speed Social to Kick-off Brighton Pride

Local Brighton DJ collective Dykes on Decks have teamed up with the duo from Gay Panic Podcast to host an LGBTQ+ speed social. Happening next Tuesday at the North Laine Brewhouse, the event kick starts Brighton Pride celebrations, with the annual festival and march taking place later in the week.

The event hopes to bring together the LGBTQ+ community with a set-up similar to speed dating, but the goal being to make friends. Couples are welcome, and organizers encourage attendees to come with a friend if they feel shy. Question cards will be placed on tables to help initiate conversations in what will be a fun and friendly evening sparking new queer friendships.

“We hope this social creates some fantastic new connections for the community in time for Pride over the weekend,” says organizers of the event. “We can't wait to meet you!”

The event joins a line-up of LGBTQ+ events happening throughout the week, to celebrate Pride, and also bring attention to the continued fight for LGBTQ+ equality. Taking place just weeks after 30,000 people marched through the streets of Brighton for Trans Pride the city is set to once again bring in thousands as both a celebration and a protest.

Coinciding with a train strike, the lead up to Brighton Pride has not been without controversy, as thousands may struggle to attend. Amongst a backdrop of increasing transphobia from both the media and government the LGBTQ+ community and allies rallying together has never been more important.
