Evenbreak <> Checkout.com I Disability Inclusive Recruitment

Evenbreak’s Rosa Breen sat down with Checkout.com’s Camilla Astrid-Robinson (Senior Specialist, Diversity Equity Inclusion Belonging), Ella Highsted (Associate, People Acquisition) and Shira Notrika (Paralegal) to talk about employment opportunities and the recruitment process for disabled candidates at Checkout.com.

Catch up on the session in full here to find out what kind of roles are available, what the recruitment process looks like, what support is on offer and how you can make your application stand out. The team also answered questions about what working life is like at Checkout.com and what career prospects there are across the business.

What measures does Checkout.com have in place to assist disabled candidates who are applying and what are the plans to improve this further?

We moved into a new office mid last year and have made sure our office spaces are accessible for when we go back to in-person interviews, currently all interviews are via zoom which can now display live transcript.

At the beginning of this year, we became a Level 2 Disability Confident employer showing our commitment externally to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.

Disability Confident is a government-backed programme to encourage businesses to continue to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. We have achieved level 2 status by:

1. Actively attracting and recruiting disabled people

Make sure our commitment is reflected in our job adverts

Work with specialist recruitment partners, like Evenbreak!

Ensure all our opportunities are open to disabled people

 2. Providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process by

Identifying and addressing any barriers that may prevent or deter disabled people from applying for jobs, including where you advertise, the words you use and how people can apply

Clearly stating in our job descriptions what the jobholder will be required to achieve, accepting there are different ways to achieve the same objective

We also have a specialist People Onboarding team that can provide any equipment needed and Evenbreak are currently auditing our processes which will help us to continue to improve!

How would a candidate go about requesting any adjustments they might need?

Every candidate will be in communication with a member of the People Acquisition team throughout the interview process. Do make them aware of any assistance required and they can make sure we provide the appropriate assistance.

Do you have any advice for candidates applying?

Carefully go through the requirements for the role that you are applying for and keep these in mind during your conversations.

We want to see passion in action. Share content pieces that inspire you. Anything that shows us more about why you love what you do, we want to see it.

Be as specific as possible. We love new ideas, so don’t be afraid to push boundaries and think big when sharing your thoughts with us.

Don’t be afraid to reference what you’ve achieved as part of a team. Teamwork and collaboration are essential skills here.

Ask as many questions at any stage of our process, we think curiosity is crucial and welcome all questions.
