Gay rights activists march in protest ahead of the Trump/Putin summit in Finland

Ahead of President Trump’s arrival in Finland for a much-talked about summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, thousands marched in protest through the streets of the Finnish capital. Many of the demonstrators waved rainbow flags and held banners calling for an end to human rights abuses in Russia, as well as protesting the treatment of LGBT+ people in the US.

According to Reuters, Heidi Hautala, a member of the European Parliament, spoke at the rally. She called out Trump and Putin for having contempt for democracy.

“The current world order… has been challenged by admiration of force and an attitude of ‘every man for himself” she said.

“And this is what these two men, Trump and Putin, have in common – contempt for democracy, contempt for international agreements, contempt for human rights.”

The protests follow similar anti-Trump demonstrations in London and Scotland when the US President arrived for talks with Theresa May.
