Hundreds Protest Homophobic Attack of 16-Year-Old Outside LGBT+ Centre in Tel Aviv

Hundreds of protestors gathered on the weekend in Tel Aviv (July 28) in a show of support for the 16-year-old who was stabbed outside of a LGBT+ youth centre.

It is reported by The Times of Israel that the boy was stabbed by his own brother after fleeing his family. The attack took place at Beit Dror, an emergency shelter for LGBT+ youth, where the boy was living.

“This is a hate crime against the LGBT community. There is a price for the insinuations and LGBT-phobia we hear everyday,” said the Israeli LGBTQ+ Youth Organization (IGY).

While Etai Pinkas-Arad, a councillor who advises the mayor on LGBT+ affairs, has said the incident was because of “ongoing incitement against the gay community” from Israeli officials.

“When the country is full of inciting billboards, when our religious leaders are willing to sacrifice our blood, and the education minister wants to convert us, then some people are hearing that message and are taking action.”
