International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2022

Today marks International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a vital day in the fight for gender equality. Women and girls have always existed in science, but their presence has not always been welcomed and celebrated despite the invaluable asset they bring to the sector. To truly achieve equality for all we need to uplift the voices of women and girls in the STEM field and do all we can to create an environment where they can flourish.

We spoke to Sarah McCluskey, Quality Associate Director at Zimmer Biomet about what this day means to her:

“As a woman working in a STEM field, the biggest opportunity I see for individuals and companies is to continue to mentor and engage women and traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM learning and careers.

To continue to drive interest and engagement, it’s necessary to both enable and showcase the diversity of thought; specifically, our individual backgrounds and unique thought processes have the capability to deliver diverse, critical thinking that leads not just to solutions but to exceptional outcomes to real-life problems.

At Zimmer Biomet, we recognize that real change takes shape through action, so we’ve created our Empower Every Voice sessions which allow team members a supportive environment to discuss topics such as equality vs equity, and how fostering inclusive behaviour provides a sense of belonging for all team members to leverage diversity within the organization.”
