Joe Biden Announces His First Act as President Would Be To Outlaw LGBT+ Discrimination
Former Vice President Joe Biden announced his first act as President would be to outlaw discrimination against LGBT+ people. He made the announcement at a Human Rights Campaign gala on Sunday.
The Equality Act is currently making its way through the House of Representatives, but Biden said he make this law a top priority.
“Now we need to elect a Democratic Senate that will pass it,” he added.
“I promise you, if I’m elected President, it will be the first thing I will ask to be done, because it will send a message not just at home but around the world.
“This is the civil rights issue of our time. If it fails, think about what else fails. It would have a profound effect on who we are as people.”
So far the bill has only stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate.
