Judicial Review Begins Against NHS For Not Offering Fertility Treatments to Trans Patients

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) will be launching a judicial review against the NHS for not offering fertility treatments to trans patients, the Guardian reports.

The commission is arguing that to not offer fertility treatments to trans people is discriminatory as it restricts their options for reproduction. Trans people could store their eggs or sperm to have the option of surrogacy later in life.

The suit comes as more teenagers than ever before are seeking treatment from gender dysphoria in the UK.

The lawsuit is proving controversial as the already resourced-strapped NHS argues the responsibility of offering fertility options falls on the individual clinical commissioning groups.
